Climate KIC, Europe’s largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate change, consisting of dynamic companies, the best academic institutions and the public sector, holds a yearly Climathon to provide a global platform to develop ideas and solutions linked to climate innovation.

Phrenos partnered with Climate KIC, to organise the 2017 Climathon, a global 24-hour climate change hackathon, which took place simultaneously in major cities around the world; 104 cities were involved, 45 countries, 6 continents, 4469 participants and 624 ideas. This year’s main stage was held in Tallinn, Estonia.

This year’s theme focused on the challenges of the world’s cities with the people who have the passion and ability to solve them, attracting innovators, entrepreneurs, students and professionals to create innovative solutions to cities climate challenges. Participants tackled the set challenge for a full 24-hours, before pitching their ideas in front of relevant local stakeholders.

Climathon has grown from 19 to 59 cities in the space of a year, operating across 6 continents, creating over 2330 ideas and reaching 16.8 million people worldwide in 2016.

Phrenos was involved from beginning to end in scouting a venue, building a visual campaign to ensure participation and managed the live online scenario whilst overseeing the 24 technical requirements on-site during the event.
